Highs and lows of the weekend

Highs of the weekend:
Beth passed her cycling proficiency
shouting at the ref with Darren!
Gills won 2-1, although I don’t know how!
The baptism of David at St Marks
lunch with the in-laws on Sunday
Watching Dr Who – fantastic!
Watching George of the Jungle with my boys!

Lows
seeing a policeman abuse a couple of Gills fans
(so bad I felt the need to ring and make a formal complaint when I got home)
watching the Phelps on BBC2 – unbelievable and certainly not the Christianity I know!
missing friends who were not around

As we enter holy week there are many highs and lows that we can focus in on of that 1st century event that we remember.

Celebrations

This morning was a really special time as we joined with Joe and Sam in the dedication of Marnie.
Such a cute child and such great parents.
Congratulations guys – we pray God will continue to bless you.

It was also special as today Sarah and I have been married for 18 years … amazing!

Long Silence

It’s been a long silence on the blog as it’s been a busy time.
The weekend was taken up with Ordinand training – one of the highlights pushing a friend back from the pub in a wheelchair (she told us she needed it!)on Saurday night through the rain – but I guess you had to be there.
Another highlight was just chatting with friends and learning more from each other. It’s quite scary to think we will be ordained in around 18 months time – watch out world! Can’t wait to get the robe allowance ‘cos then I ca afford to but a nice apple mac!
Still another was drinking green beer with ‘the boys’ in Herne by on saturday afternoon while we watched some football and rugby. The landlord had addd green food colouring to one of the barrels which produced deep green beer with a bright green frothy head which looked quite cool. The e numbers from the colouring seemed to leave me a bit wired inthe afternoon when I should have been feeling sleepy after a few beers.
On top of all this – we even managed o do some training and lectures. Not a bad weekend!

Friends and Curry

This weekend I am thanking God for friends and curry.
We ate curry and laughed with friends on Saturday night.
We ate curry and laughed with friends at Sunday lunchtime.
I enjoy friends, and I enjoy curry
Thanks God!

great friend

I had a great day today.
A good sunny drive to Tenterden and back.
There I met my good and very valued friend Dennis, who is director of Weald YFC, and heard about exciting plans he has. Den is a man of great vision and ability and I always feel refreshed after coming away after a time of sharing dreams with each other.
It’s great to have such good friends.

A good friday

Today has been a good day.
Beth and Joehad great friends over to play.
Sarah has decorated the kitchen and it looks outstanding.
I have written tose other 2499 words and completed an essay on infant baptism as I can’t do the one that is actually due next week!
Tonight Sarah is on a night hike and I have ended the week by having a great chat with Gary and made a good dent in a bottle of Bowmore malt!

exciting times

Exciting times ahead for my friend Andy called to use his skills in the world of politics.
please pray for him.
Odd how exciting times for some can be sad times for others.

First Post of 2007

It seems like I am the only person in the UK who is not back at work!
I should feel embarrased, but it feels great!!!

The highlight of the last few days was seeing the new year in with some of our good friends and family members – good food, good beer and wine, good relaxed company and laughter. This year most of the children stayed awake to see midnight which was quite fun in itself and certianly something they will remember for a while – even if only for the massive 120 shot firework with a dodgy “escape from hell” type name – but it was great so thanks Darrel.

Open House

We had ‘open house’ today as a replacement for our normal ‘Birthday party for Jesus’ which normally happens at our house on Christmas Eve. This little ‘tradition’ was started when all our children, and those of friends, were little but now that they are approaching teenage years we thought it would stop. Seems our children want to have the birthday party for Jesus for some years to come yet.

It was a great afternoon and a brief chance, or space. to catch up with friends which is not normally possible in this hectic season.

I’m back!

I had a good few days away.

The meetings at head office were great and we got a good amount of stuff covered.
The real highlight, though, was catching up with Cassie and Chris. We ate curry (thanks Chris!), drank beer and chatted about loads of stuff and it was a genuine pleasure to spend some good time with two very special people.

I learnt new things about them both – Cassie can’t wrap presents …!

Roll on May 2008 when these special people get married!

I must be getting old … no matter how good a time away is, I always notice my speed increasing the closer I get to home and the great pleasure I feel when I arrive home. I am lucky to have such a great family.
