Why is this stuff such big news?
What is it about some people of this country that likes to moan and victimize those that are looking likely to be succesful, or have any gifts? Why are we always looking for the stuff to criticise rather than the stuff to praise?
Many acknowledge that Amy Winehouse is one of the great up and coming musical talents in the UK, yet instead of encourage her and praise her musical successes many choose to focus on those areas in which she is struggling.
Yes she has some major difficulties which she fails with in the public eye. Yet she has the bravery and courage to sing about them rather than pretend they are not there.
Do we ever stop to consider how we would fare if we made our mistakes under the spotlight at her age? She is still a young person, she’s only 24!
It stinks and p***** me off somewhat!
I wish the media would leave her alone.
If you wish to do something constructive go buy her CD and listen to her music!
on the whole rob i agree with your comments. however hasn’t this become part of the role of being a celebrity to have your life (generally the negatives) splashed across the media. And Amy is seen as a role model to many people who want to aspire to be like her, so does she not hold some of the responsiblity for sorting her life out.
Thanks for your post – always great to rceive comments.it may well have become part of being a celebrity to have lives splashed across the media – but is that right and should we accept that? Is it not better that we should make a stand and speak out against this becoming the norm?If people who see it as wrong stay silent then the result is that we allow society to be dragged down where condemnation and put downs are the norm rather than praise and encouragement.
I am not sure that “celebrity” is that right to begin with. The disproportionately high rewards received by the the most celebrated singers, footballers and the like rarely seem to promote the development of maturity in celebrity, devotees or critics.I think there are wiser places to invest time and money than in exalting so-called stars.
yep maybe.but I see this as a case of a young person with a talent who needs nurturing, support and encouragement rather than condemnation.
What she doesn’t need is the wherewithal to indulge in self destruction, backed up by an environment where this kind of living is lauded (freedom of expression for some and a way of bankrolling the headlines for others). That is why I think the cult of celebrity is such dangerous pop idol.I accept the importance of your challenge to a positive response though. My positive response is to continue to be salt and light in the much lower key local music scenes I am involved in.
