Today we drove to London Zoo.
Zoo’s are much better than they used to be; far more conservationally minded while making better efforts to house animals appropriately. The children loved the day and it was just such a nice experience to have a relatively relaxed day wandering laughing and chatting.
I have a mound of essays to do, and recently I have been thinking a lot about the image of God, and what this actually is, what it means, the implications of what it means and so on.
There are many theories, but one is that it is all to do with our rationality that echoes, or mirrors, the rationality of God. I struggle here as I look at humanity and see no real evidence of rationality; I think we like to think we are rational humans, but massive things like genocide prove it wrong, as do minor things like why my favourites colour is purple and others is red. Rationality would be able to explain these things, along with love, but it cannot because it is … irrational!
This concerned me until today. God, surely is rational! Today my eyes were opened – look at the giraffe, the tapir, the porcupine, the seahorse …… evidence of a rational God, or evidence of a widely creative God with a bit of a sense of humour; humour itself, of course, being irrational!
